John James Ingalls, 1833–1900
Journalist, StatesmanIngalls rose to prominence as an anti-slavery editor in the Kansas Territory. He won a seat in the state legislature before being elected to the U.S. Senate. At the pinnacle of his career, he served as president pro tempore of the Senate.
